Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A silver metal and epoxied shield shaped device 1-1/4 inch in height, blazoned as follows: Sanguine, upon a wavy chevron Celeste fimbriated Argent (Silver), a 21-point mullet bearing a bezant charged with a Greek delta symbol, comprised of four triangles, Or, below a demi-caduceus of the third.  Attached below the shield, a silver tri-parted scroll inscribed “SERVING THE PACIFIC” in Maroon.

Symbolism

Maroon and white are the traditional colors of the Army Medical Department, while silver alludes to the tools used in dentistry.  The light blue wavy chevron denotes the command’s Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.  The sun with 21 rays signifies the 21 dental clinics within the Pacific Region.  The triangle within the sun suggests the Greek delta symbol “Δ”, referring to the “D” in “Dental.” The caduceus is symbolic of medical expertise and the command’s mission to provide medical care and aid. The motto “Serving the Pacific” represents the Dental Health Command headquartered on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
